IFC Seoul, Proved as Green Building Obtaining a Gold Class from LEED

[December 17, 2013] AIG Korea Real Estate Development which is a developer of IFC Seoul (Seoul International Finance Center) located on Yeouido revealed on 17th that it obtained a gold class of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) which is a green building rating system.

LEED is a green building rating system enacted in 1998 by USGBC (U.S. Green Building Council) and is one of world three green building certifications with BREEAM in U.K. and CASBEE in Japan. LEED assesses 5 items such as the reduction of energy & water resource, resources recycling, improvement of indoor environment, and sustainable site development on a 110-point scale and accords four classes such as simple certification, silver, gold, and platinum. Around four thousands buildings in 103 countries over the world and about 20 buildings in Korea obtained the certifications from LEED.

IFC Seoul proved that it is an excellent case of advanced & green building in Korea by obtaining a gold class of LEED in spite of very strict rating conditions. Obtaining a gold class is a result of efforts made by IFC Seoul which has kept the green building of reducing energy since its construction.

IFC Seoul consisting of three office towers (One IFC, Two IFC, Three IFC) and Conrad Seoul Hotel is an advanced & green building harmonizing combining harmonizing nature, human, and business. IFC’s three office buildings has an installation of efficient system by highly efficient pump and ‘rainwater collection facility’ which collects rainwater flowing into along the roof side of building, filters rainwater, and uses it to irrigation. Therefore, it can reduce up to 50% of water consumption in addition to water saving.

In addition, Conrad Seoul Hotel which is belonged to IFC Seoul installs solar collector and solar cells panel to its roof and walls, which are used to supply hot water and emergency electricity to the building. And it realized energy saving with ice thermal storage system using midnight electricity and with the construction of transparent pair glass raising insulation function and lowering emissivity.

Director Gyeong-seon Yeo, AIG KRED said “IFC Seoul has lead high satisfaction of resident companies by lowering even office maintenance fee with energy saving”, and added “With this opportunity of gold class certification by LEED, IFC Seoul will go win-win strategy with Yeouido region by raising the value of this building as a Korean green landmark building.”
